What Do Cochlear Implants And Hearing Aids Sound Like?

Covering the outer reaches of space to the tiniest microbes in our bodies, Science Friday is the source for entertaining and educational stories about science, technology, and other cool stuff.

They recently posted an article titled ‘What Do Cochlear Implants And Hearing Aids Sound Like?’ which has demo sound files intended to simulate how hearing aids and cochlear implants sound to their users.

The site admits that the simulations are not perfect and I have to agree. My hearing loss is quite profound but my experience through hearing aids has never sounded as bad at the simulation presented. Even the sound through my cochlear implant does not sound as robotic and synthetic as the demo on the site. I’m only speaking from my own personal experience though.

Its a page worth checking out and the site itself looks like something I’ll be visiting again

Thanks for sharing, Daniel! Honestly I could “hear” 75% of the simulated hearing aid speech but could make out none of the CI simulation…ugh! Makes me wonder why I’m getting a CI.
